Online business with WordPress and Siteground
Starting an online business
…can be an overwhelming task if you don’t know what you’re doing, but the rewards can be great. I’m about to provide you with step by step instructions on how to go about it. Whether you have an established business, or are just about to venture into something new, then this is the online business guide for you.
What we’ll cover in this series.
Finding your niche.
For those who have an existing business, there probably won’t be that much content here for you, however it is recommended you at least skim the content for possible tips and tricks you may not know.
Setting up with your host.
My preferred hosting provider is Siteground. I’ve been with them for around a year now, and not one problem. Their service is fantastic; I’ve never had to wait for more than a minute for an operator and the issues ( which have mainly been mine ) have been resolved within ten minutes 99% of the time, not to mention that the staff are always very friendly. They are also very well priced and have great uptime.
Yes, you guessed it. WordPress is by far the easiest of the big 3 CMS’s ( Content Management Systems ) to use. Although there are many others ( Squarespace, Weebly, Wix, the list goes on and on ), I find WordPress super simple to set up and extend.
Installing WordPress Plugins and Themes.
This is by no means an exhaustive list, it’s just the way I do it. We’ll install a few plugins and my favorite theme to get us started; once you have the knowledge, you can do what you like!
Configuring our Plugins.
Some of the plugins we’ll be using, such as SEO Yoast and WooCommerce, will require a bit of configuration. Stick with me as we walk through the process.
SEO and Analytics
I’ll introduce you to some tools that will help you reach your audience and define your keyword strategy. We will also look at some tools which will help you see how effective your strategy is.
Social Media and Advertising
Integrating Social Media with WordPress is as easy as a click of a button, however choosing what and where to share is a discipline unto itself. We will work through creating a social media strategy for our test case, which you will then be able to implement for yourself. We’ll also look at both Google and Facebook Ads.
Email and Marketing
Building an email list is key to creating a successful online business. Here we’ll have a look at a couple of providers, namely MailChimp and Amazon SES.
This is part one of a series in which I’ll cover how to set up an online business using WordPress and WooCommerce using the plugin we need and the tech that supports it. I’ll also cover the basics of marketing using SEO, social media and list building to help you build a great client base. I hope you like what you’re reading so far.
